If you know games you'll already know that (Call of Duty) Modern Warfare 2 is out in November this year. It'll be battling FIFA for the Christmas number one spot and some people may have their pre-orders in already, even for the stalker-pleasing prestige edition that includes a pair of night-vision goggles (really.) But there are other games out during the winter/holiday season and one of the most promising is Borderlands, being released for next-gen. consoles on October 23rd.
Developed by Gearbox games (also strongly rumoured to be working on Halo 4) the game is all kinds of unique: It eschews any pretence of photo-realism for a fresh, cell-shaded look that's all game. The game-play hinges on a hybrid of loot-collecting Role Playing Games and First Person Shooters.
If (like most avid gamers) you're also a gun-nut then you'll be very happy here: you'll have up to 16 million to play around with, all with their own unique properties. You'll also be able to go treasure hunting and slaying on the Mad Max style planet Pandora with three other friends online (with the same character you'll use in the single-player game.) So, will you be allowing Modern Warfare 2 to dominate your Christmas play time or will you be trying something a little different, perhaps Borderlands or one of the other lesser-known games being released at the end of the year?
Or perhaps you'll be spying on your neighbours with your fresh new night-vision goggles, or using them to see if you can see Father Christmas using his to see if you're asleep yet?
