Pembrokeshire people and businesses have been busy supporting the Kidney Wales Foundation.

In the recent Kidney Wales Foundation charity half-marathon held in Cardiff, Charles Davies, from Haverfordwest was one of the oldest runners and completed his race in less than an hour.

The 75-year-old finished 922nd out of the 2,000 entrants in the ten-kilometre race, with a time of 58 minutes and 17 seconds.

In addition, Haverfordwest Specsavers is backing a campaign urging people to join the organ donor register and discuss organ donation with their loved ones.

The Donate Wales, tell a loved one campaign is being led by the Kidney Wales Foundation. It has resulted in some of the country’s biggest charities coming together to tackle the shortage of donors.

Manager of Haverfordwest Specsavers, Andy Britton, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this campaign. We have already been encouraging customers to join the organ donor register and tell their loved ones just how important organ donation is through leaflets and posters.

“Hopefully we can raise awareness of the campaign further and, along with the work of the charities already involved, we can decrease the number of those waiting for transplants.”

More than 490 people in Wales are currently waiting for transplants, yet only one in four people have joined the Organ Donor Register.

Chairman of the Kidney Wales Foundation and the Donate wales, tell a loved one campaign, Roy J. Thomas, said: “It is vital that not only do we increase the number of those on the Organ Donor Register but that we also get people talking about organ donation with their loved ones.

“With the support of organisations like Specsavers we are in a much better position to get this message across,” he added.
