Entries are now open for the Caldey Swim 2016, which is due to take place on Sunday August 14.
The sea spectacle involves a 2.5 mile swim from the monastic island to Tenby, and is now an established event on the UK sea swimming calendar.
Swimming between Caldey Island and the mainland is a long-standing tradition in Tenby for individuals and small groups, but 2013 was the first time for the distance to be swum under the umbrella of the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA), which has organised the town’s legendary Boxing Day Swim for over 40 years.
The swims have raised thousands of pounds for Tenby RNLI, which once again is this year’s beneficiary.
Said TSSA chairman Chris Osborne: “There are only 100 entries available and we are expecting a keen take-up.”
The event is being sponsored by Big Brum’s Carpet & Furniture; Princes Gate Water and Milford Haven Port Authority.
Spectators can follow the swim from a viewing boat which will leave Tenby’s Castle Beach at around 10.20am on the morning of the swim.
The finish will be between Tenby’s old lifeboat station and the harbour, with swimmers expected home between 11.30am and 12.45pm.
Entry applications are available until April 30 at Tenby-Caldey-Swim.co.uk/SWIMMERS, with Facebook support at TenbyCaldeySwim.
