Mrs M. T. Philpin
Haverfordwest
Myrtle Theadore Philpin died on ward 12 of Withybush Hospital on June 30th. She was 88. Born and brought up in Pembrokeshire, she had formally lived at Caswell, 120 Portfield, Haverfordwest, but due to failing health she moved to Canterbury House residential care home, Milford Haven in November 2007. She was predeceased by her husband Cyril in 1989, and her daughter Ruth Bevan in 2003. Her interests revolved around her family. She had many friends, and also loved her garden. In more recent years she suffered ill health, but she never complained. The family left to mourn were: Allan and Kathy Philpin (son and daughter-in-law); Pam and Paul John (daughter and son-in-law); Kelvin Bevan (son-in-law); Vernon Thomas (brother); Gwen Thomas (sister-in-law) and Nicky Hughes (grandson). The chapel was filled with other close relatives and friends, too numerous to mention. The bearers were Charles Thomas (nephew), Stephen Thomas (nephew), Richard Thomas (nephew and godson) and Nicky Hughes (grandson). The funeral and burial were held at Hill Mountain Methodist Chapel on July 4th and were officiated by Rev W. Robertson. The poem Footprints In The Sand was read by Pam John. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest, and donations may be sent to the Paul Sartori Foundation.
Mr R. J. Miller
Haverfordwest
Richard John Miller, of Foley Way, Haverfordwest died after a short stay at Withybush Hospital on June 17th. He was 82. A native of the Haverfordwest area, he worked as a baker with Osborne and Perkins, and also for the council and Welsh Water for more than 30 years. He retired in 1982. He served in the Welsh Regiment in France and Belgium during the Second World War. His hobbies included watching horse racing and spending time with his family. The family left to mourn are: Edna Miller (wife); David and Christine Miller (son and daughter-in-law); Michael and Janet Miller (son and daughter-in-law); Robert Miller (grandson); Mr and Mrs C. Griffiths, Mr and Mrs B. Evans (nephews and nieces); Mr and Mrs T. Mathias, Mr and Mrs B. Hughes, Mrs R. Phelps, Mr and Mrs D. Hughes, Mrs L. Smith (cousins). Unable to attend were Mr and Mrs F. Miller, of Glasgow, and Mr and Mrs Hughes, of The Netherlands (nephews). The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Martin Evans. The bearers were R. Mansell, Q. Mansell, J. Moore and K. Potter. There were family flowers only, with donations for ward ten at Withybush Hospital to Mr C. Griffiths, 38 Hawthorn Rise, Haverfordwest. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas, Freystrop.
Mr. D. Mcnaboe Goodwick
The requiem mass took place on Wednesday, June 25th, of Danny Mcnaboe, of Hafan, Stop and Call Hill, Goodwick. Danny died on Saturday, June 14th, at Withybush Hospital. Danny moved to England from his home in County Leitrim, Ireland, in the late 1950s, and spent most of his working life in Sussex, working in engineering and maintenance work at Worth Abbey monastery and school. He retired to Pembrokeshire in 2002 with his wife Vivienne and lived in Goodwick, where they soon settled into the community making many friends. Danny and Viv had travelled extensively and made the most of their retirement. The requiem mass was celebrated at the Church of the Holy Name, Fishguard and was followed by interment at Llanwnda Cemetery. The celebrant was Monsignor Clyde Hughes Johnson. The main mourners were: Vivienne McNaboe (wife); Sarah and Wayne Sherbourne (daughter and son-in-law); Jason and Nicky McNaboe (son and daughter-in-law); Briony and Mark Chedzey (daughter and partner); Donna and Pat Gannon (daughter and partner); Sonja Kennedy (step-daughter); Sarah and Duncan Eglington (step-daughter and husband); Georgia Bonner and Jason Lewis (step-daughter and partner). Melissa Ellett, Thomas, Jasmine, Ciara, Cavan, Jacey and Paddy McNaboe; Jamie and Alex Temple, Alex, Jade and Chloe Eglington and Morgan Lewis, (grandchildren); Cora Gill and Briget McNaboe (sisters); Mick and Denise McNaboe, Christopher Gill, Christine and Dave Kirkby (nephews and nieces); Darren McIntyre (great-nephew); Les and Pauline Chester (cousins); Evelyn and Dai Cole, Val Davies, Frank and Pam Colella, Dai and Chris Morgan, John and Rose Kennedy (close friends), together with other family and friends. Unable to attend were Shardae Temple, Cliff and Sue Sharpe, and Ben and Ingrid Stokes. The bearers were Dai Cole, Jason McNaboe, Tom McNaboe, Michael McNaboe, Jamie Temple and Frank Colella. Donations, if desired, for the Kidney Wales Foundation, may be sent to Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs H. D. Lewis
Pembroke Dock
Helen Diane Lewis of Lavinia Drive, Pembroke Dock, died on June 20th, at Withybush Hospital. She was 63. Originally from Wallasey, Merseyside, she was a registered nurse for people with learning disabilities. She worked for Pembrokeshire health services for 25 years at Fort Road, Pembroke Dock and in the community. She enjoyed travel and in particular caravan holidays abroad. The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Steve Lewis (husband); Steve Eccles, Chrissey Eccles, Debbie Brenchley (children); Daniel Eccles, Conor Eccles, Erin Eccles, Dylan Brenchley and Leah Brenchley (grandchildren), plus other family, friends and former work colleagues. The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Malcolm Shapland. Donations in lieu of flowers are for Macmillan Cancer Support. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

St Davids
Frances John, of 6 Noddfa Dewi, St Davids, died at home with her family around her on Monday June 16th. She was 85. Frances was originally from Hereford moving to St Davids with her employer in 1939. Her late husband Ronnie was a native of St Davids and predeceased her 12 years ago. Her son Raymond died in 2003. She leaves to mourn: Marlene, Pat, Pam, Roland, Velma and their respective spouses, plus ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Her interests included her garden, home and family. A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral service on June 20th at St David’s Cathedral, which was followed by burial at St Davids Cemetery. The bearers were her grandsons Ceri, Kevin, Barry, Gareth, Nathan and Daniel. There were family flowers only, with donations if desired for the District Nurses Fund and St Davids Surgery to Bernard Mathias, funeral directors, 62 New Street, St Davids.
Mr J. R. J. Eynon
Haverfordwest The funeral took place recently of John Roland James Eynon at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, who died at his home in St Martin’s Park, Haverford-west on June 18th at the age of 80. He was born and bred at Pengwern Farm, Llanfallteg, and was the only son of the late Mr and Mrs J. Eynon. After leaving farming, he eventually became a coach driver for Marchwood Motorways, based at Haverfordwest and later for Silcox Coaches, Pembroke Dock. He had a passion for Welsh singing, and in his younger days he possessed a fine tenor voice. He was forced to retire due to ill health aged 60. At the same time he cared for his disabled wife. The principal mourners were: Dilys Eynon (wife); Andrew and Beverley Eynon (son and daughter-in-law); Annie John (sister); Myfanwy Morgan (sister); Eiddwen and Walter Morgan (sister and brother-in-law); Joe Morgan (brother-in-law, unable to attend owing to illness), plus nephews, nieces, friends and colleagues too numerous to mention. The bearers were his nephews Richard Morgan, Brian Morgan and Anthony John. Rev Martin Evans officiated. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son, Freystrop.
Mrs E. Edwards
Narberth THE funeral of Evelyn Edwards took place on June 5th. She died at Woodfield Nursing Home, Narberth aged 92. She made her home in Narberth more than 30 years ago from her native Liverpool, with her late husband John. A private service was held for family and close friends at her daughter Betty’s home followed by a service at Parc Gwyn crematorium where a reading was given by granddaughter Victoria. Both services were officiated by Rev Elwyn John. The bearers for the funeral were her grandchildren dawn and Scott and sons-in-law Andrew and Ellis. The family left to mourn are: Betty and Andrew (daughter and son-in-law); Iris and Ellis (daughter and son-in-law); Boddy and Joan (son and daughter-in-law); Terry and Carol (nephew and niece); grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was Evelyn’s wishes for her ashes to be dispersed on the River Mersey, Liverpool, and some to remain with her husband. Her family travelled to Liverpool to carry out her request. Donations for Woodfield Nursing Home can be sent to David Morris and Son, 2 Llwyn Meredith, Carmarthen, SA31 1EF, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr P. H. W. Monk
Templeton
The death occurred on June 21st of Philip Havilah William Monk, of Chapel Lane, Templeton, at Withybush hospital. He was 77. He was born in Tylerstown in the Rhodda and five years later his family moved to Ystrad Mynach, where he lived until qualifying as a pharmacist at Cardiff University. For several years he resided and worked in the Cardiff area as a dispensing chemist. Married and with three young children, Philip moved to Pembrokeshire in 1970 to set up his own chemist, Kilgetty Pharmacy. He was a hard-working man whose reputation and business rapidly grew earning a high level of respect and trust from the local community. He never turned anyone away when they knocked on his door out of hours and in need of medication. He retired ten years ago. Philip was a brilliant carpenter and metal worker, often making fittings for his shop and home and for family and friends. He also developed his photography into another business. The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Stephen and Penny Monk (son and daughter-in-law); Sally and Richard Ryan (daughter and son-in-law); Carolyn and Terry Thomas (daughter and son-in-law); Matthew, Sophie and Megan (grandchildren); Trudi Monk (sister); Millie and Joe Farn (sister and brother-in-law); Raydene Morgan (partner); Elaine and Spiro, Carole and Phil, Joanne and Dean and their families (Raydene’s daughters). Many other family members and friends attended the funeral including most of Philip’s former staff at Kilgetty Pharmacy as well as many of his patients. The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Dr Michael Needs. The bearers were Stephen Monk (son), Richard Ryan (son-in-law), Terry Thomas (son-in-law), Matthew Edwards (grandson). The funeral service included a bible reading by his daughter-in-law, Penny Monk, a flute solo by his granddaughter Megan Thomas and a tribute from his friend Tom Price. There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Saundersfoot Medical Centre to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, Narberth SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr T. D. Harries
Pembroke Dock
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Tuesday, July 15th, of Thomas David Harries, of Gwyther Street, Pembroke Dock. Tom died at home on June 8th after a short illness. He was 77. The principal mourners were: Valerie (wife); Stephen and Angela (son and daughter-in-law); Leighton and Catrin (grandchildren); Sheila and Walter Morse (sister and brother-in-law); Terry Harries (brother) and Ann and Graham Tregidon (sister-in-law and brother-in-law). There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation to E. C. Thomas and Son, 31 Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6TS, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
