Mr R. I. Whelton

Milford Haven

The funeral took place recently of Robert Ian Whelton, of Priory Road, Milford Haven, and formerly of Cromie Avenue, Haverfordwest, who died at his home on May 4th at the age of 43.

On leaving school, Rob worked at Fenton Factors, Haverfordwest for four years, and then went on to work for Taylor Tiles in Haverfordwest for 22 years. For the last two years Robert was deputy manager at Ladbrokes in Milford Haven.

Robert played in the darts league on a Friday night for the Greyhound in Haverfordwest, and also played super league darts and was a keen pool player. He always supported Spurs and was a regular at the Alma in Milford Haven, where he watched the games with his friends.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Erica Bond (common-law wife); Phyllis Whelton (mother); Steven, Alan and Liam (sons); John and Margaret, Jeffrey and Christine, Paul and Mary, Andrew and Cheryl, Matthew and Toni (sons and their families); plus nieces, nephews and close friends to numerous to mention.

The funeral was held at St Mary's Church, Haverford-west. The bearers in church were John, Jeffrey, Paul, Drew and Matthew (brothers) and Steven (eldest son), and at the graveside Nigel Hancock, Paul Phillips, Steven Thomas, Anthony Griffiths, Paul Ross Platt and Lee Chenery.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Cystic Fibrosis, can be sent to Nigel Lloyd, 16 Cromie Avenue, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Roy Folland and Sons, Haverfordwest.

Mr D. H. Young

Haverfordwest (formerly of Llangwm)

The death occurred at Ashdale Nursing Home, Pembroke on May 1st of David (Hugh) Young, aged 88.

Hugh was educated at Nolton School and Haverfordwest Grammar School. In 1939 he joined the army and served with the Royal Engineers in France, Holland and Belgium. After leaving the army he moved to Ashdale Farm, where he lived for over 60 years bringing up his family.

He was a member of the Neyland Lodge of Free-masons for more than 50 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian in 1966 and by his daughter Rebekah in 1994. He married Brenda in 1970.

A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on May 8th, which was officiated by Rev Michael Rowlands.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Brenda (wife); David and Elizabeth (son and daughter-in-law); Jane and Max (daughter and son-in-law); Jeremy and Vilma (son and daughter-in-law); Greta, Alex, Haley and Kelly (grandchildren); Jane, Iaun and David (stepdaughter, husband and son).

The bearers were members of Neyland Lodge of Freemasons.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for Ashdale Nursing Home, being sent to Mr L. Thomas, 26 Wordsworth Avenue, Haverfordwest, SA61 1SN.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs G. M. Phillips

Ambleston

Gwendoline Mildred Phillips, of Corner House, Ambleston, Haverfordwest, died on April 13th at Withybush Hospital after a short stay. She was 67.

Originally from Scoveston Fort, near Waterston, she worked in the braiding rooms on Milford Docks making and repairing fishing nets. She then worked at Kensington Hospital, St Brides.

It was during these years that she met her future husband, Samuel, and after their marriage they lived at Ambleston.

She later worked in Trecwn and at Wallis Woollen Mill before joining her husband in working on the family's farm, which she did until suffering from a serious illness in 1979.

In her later years her main interests were her home and family. She enjoyed reading, watching television and hearing local news from everyone who visited her.

She was predeceased by her husband Samuel in 2005.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Elsie Richards (mother); Mark and Nigel (sons); Mary, Eileen, Joyce, Hilary, Marilyn and Maureen (sisters); Brinley and Glyn (brothers); Clare, Tony and Daniel (grandchildren); Keeley, Oliver and Owain (great grandchildren).

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Friday, April 18th and Rev William Owen officiated.

There were family flowers only, but donations if desired for the Stroke Association may be sent to Gordon Lewis, Old Post Office, Ambleston, Haver-fordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by W. H. Lewis, Ford Bungalow, Wolfscastle.

Mrs. E. E. Hesse

Haverfordwest

The death occurred of Eleanor Edith Hesse of Payston Close, Haverford-west, at Withybush Hospital after a short illness. She was 88.

Originally from St Davids, she married George H. Hesse and later moved to Haverfordwest.

She was an avid sports fan of athletics, tennis and snooker, a love of the cinema, and especially travelling by air.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: George (husband); Angela and Patrick (daughter and husband), Ingrid and Alan (daughter and partner); Charles and Ann (son and wife); Rachel and Marcus (granddaughter and partner); Sonia, Mark, Karl (grandchildren); Sharon and Andrew (granddaughter and husband); Marjorie (sister unable to attend); Sarah (wife of Alex, unable to attend); Gerald and Richard (nephews); Myrna (niece); Malcolm and Barbara and life long friends Kurt and Edith, also many others too numerous to mention.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was conducted by Canon C. Bowen.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired to The Colostomy Association, 15 Station Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 1LG.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, of Haverfordwest.

Mrs A. Stephens

Llanelli (formerly of Newport)

The funeral took place at Llanelli Crematorium on Monday, May 12th, of Ann Stephens, of 1 St George Cottages, Coedcae, Llanelli. She died on May 2nd at Ty Bryngwyn Hospice, Llanelli aged 61.

She was born and brought up in Newport, Pembroke-shire and was the daughter of the late Idris and Valmai Williams, of Llysaeron, Parrog Road, Newport.

She moved to Llanelli in the late 1960s where she worked for many years.

She was happily married for the last 12 years to Viv and was a devoted mother to Gaynor and stepmother to Wayne and Claire and a cherished grandmother to Lisa, Christopher, Taylor, Joe, Yasmin, Callum and Alex.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn were: Viv (husband); Gaynor (daughter); Wayne and Sally (stepson and step-daughter-in-law); Claire and Paul (stepdaughter and step-son-in-law); Lisa and Simon (granddaughter and partner); Christopher (grandson); Dennis and Brenda, Vivian and Helen (brothers and sisters-in-law); Christina and Wyn (sister and brother-in-law); Lucie, Rachel, Nicola, Kimberley, Gemma, Catrin, Emyr, Nia and Gavin (nieces and nephews); Ken and Biddy, Glyn and June, June, Hazel and Bill, Raymond (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law); Gordon and Bec (uncle and aunt); together with many cousins and other family members and friends to numerous to mention.

The bearers were Anthony Simons, Noel Thomas, Simon Williams and Darren Rees.

The funeral was officiated by Rev David Jones.

Ann's ashes were interred in the grave of her late parents at Brynhyfryd Cemetery, Newport following a short service at the graveside on May 15th.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu may be made payable to Ty Bryngwyn Hospice, Llanelli, and may be sent to Arthur Cambrey, funeral director, Alban Road, Llanelli, SA15 1ES, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs M. J. Davies

Milford Haven

The death occurred of Mary Jane Davies at Bush House Nursing Home, Pembroke on April 13th. She was formerly of Richard John Road, Milford Haven, and was 84.

Originally from Aberdeen, she worked in domestic services, the Royal Navy and she was also a housewife.

She enjoyed cooking, crosswords and puzzles and flower arranging.

She was predeceased by her first husband Bill Sweeny in 1982.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Billy Davies (husband); James and Michael Sweeny (sons and their families); Trisha, Margaret, Rachel, Robert, David and Caroline, Yvonne, Brian; Simon, Rhys, Layla and Dylan (grandchildren and great grandchildren) and many other family and friends.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Paul Bartlett.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr F. T. Bennett

Milford Haven

The death occurred of Mr Frederick Trevor Bennett, of 30 Haven Drive, Hakin, Milford Haven at Withybush Hospital, on May 10.

Fred was an only child and was born and bred in Freystrop. He was in the second world war in the 53rd Welsh Division, and his working life was spent at the Mining Depot. He was a gentleman and loved by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Enid (who died in 2001), and his two sons, William John (who died in 1955) and Trevor James (who died in 1967).

Mr Bennett leaves to mourn: Ken, Ann, Stevie and Andrew (children); Georgie, Mike and Susan (partners); Katrina, Kristan, Kerry, Robert, Nicola, Jonathan, Jamie and Emma (grandchildren); Joseph, Evangeline, Alexander, Gabriella, Fraya and Tyler (great grandchildren).

The funeral took place on May 15 at St Davids Church, Hubberston, and was followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery.

The bearers were representatives of Herbrandston Cricket Club: Gary Davies, Paul Hood, Stanley Evans and Alan Wonnacott.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven

Mr J. Aitchison

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred of John (Jock) Aitchison, of Amphion Court, Pembroke Dock on May 2nd. He died at Withybush Hospital at the age of 77.

Originally from Renfrewshire in Scotland, he came to Pembroke Dock in the 1960's with his family, working for the council.

He later worked for Marine and Port Services, followed by his best loved job with social services as a driver carer.

He made many friends at the then Pembroke Dock Conservative Club, playing snooker for the team and being a committee member.

The family left to mourn were: Sue Aitchison (wife); John and Gabbi (son and daughter-in-law); Jennie and John Milne, Anne and Simon Mills (daughters and sons-in-law); Heather and Neil Edmondson (daughter and partner); Meike, Nashi, Collin, Lisa, Scott, Archie, Lacey, Amie, Lee, Lauren, Sean (grandchildren); Mason (great grandchild).

The funeral took place at St John's Church, Pembroke Dock followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was conducted by Rev Thelma Barber. The bearers were John Aitchison, Simon Mills, John Milne and Neil Edmunson.

There were family flowers only with donations to the Paul Sartori Foundation being sent to John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock SA72 6AN, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr D. G. Evans

Crundale

The funeral took place recently of Mr David Gwilym Evans, Dingle Lane, Crundale, who passed away at the age of 88 years on May 6th at Withybush Hospital.

Originally from Spittal, he farmed at Triffleton, Spittal and moved to Little Rath, Crundale in 1969. Over the next 25 years Dai farmed successfully a dairy herd and retired with Mattie to Dingle Lane, Crundale.

During the war Dai served in the home guard.

He was a member of Zions Hill Chapel, Spittal and also a member of the Over 60s Club in Crundale.

He was predeceased by Mattie Evans in 2002.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Steven, Megan, John, Jean, Tony and Corinne (children); Sandra, Caroline, Paul, Christopher (in-laws); Jason, Hayley, Clare, David, Suzy, Robert, Kelly, Lindsey, Adam, Sarah, Sian, Steven, Katie (grandchildren); Brenda and Joyce (nieces).

The funeral service was held at Bethlehem, Spittal and was officiated by Rev Paul Davies.

The bearers were Jason, David, Steven, Adam and Robert (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by R Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr. P. Callan

Pembroke

In the obituary of Mr Paul Callan, which appeared in last week's Western Telegraph, the name of Tiana John was spelt incorrectly.

Mrs E. R. Hughes

Simpson Cross

The death occurred on May 6th of Edna Rose Hughes, of Castle View, Simpson Cross, who had spent the last six years at the Meadows Care Home, Johnston. She was 88.

She was a working mother and housewife after a period of service in World War Two in WVS.

Her main interests where within her home and also gardening.

She was predeceased by Gwyn Owen Hughes in 1991.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Nigel John Hughes (son); Denise Sheldon and Catherine Jones (cousins); Mrs Curtlin (solicitor) of RTP Williams, Haverfordwest.

The funeral was held at St Mary's Church, Roch, and was officiated by Rev M. Rowlands.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.
