THE first ever Haverfoodfest was a rip-roaring success, with over 4000 visitors flocking to attend the county town’s new event.
Almost 50 stalls displayed an array of the best food and drink from Pembrokeshire and beyond, a packed musical programme entertained the crowds and budding foodies watched as celebrity chef Angela Gray shared her culinary tips.
Everyone the Western Telegraph spoke to was full of praise for the festival. Linda Blocksage, who had travelled from Liverpool to attend, said she’d had a “fantastic” day. Local sisters Sophie and Marty Greaves said they thought the event was a great thing for Haverfordwest.
“Haverfordwest needs more things like this,” said Marty. “It brings people to the town,” Sophie added.
“It would be great if this becomes an annual event.”
By 3pm two-thirds of the stallholders had sold out of produce, so latecomers were allowed in for free.
One of Haverfoodfest’s organisers, Sally Williams, said the local businesspeople behind the festival were “overwhelmed” by its success.
“It was absolutely fab!” she said.
“We can’t thank the public, our generous sponsors and all the wonderful volunteers enough for their support. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.
"We are really hoping to make this an annual event – perhaps over two days next year. We think it’s a great thing for Haverfordwest. It created a really positive community spirit that flowed beyond Haverfoodfest and throughout the town.”
